Autumn in New York
by Annie Modesitt, New Jersey, USA
Materials used:
Hat Body: Touch Me chenille by Meunch Yarn (black and mink). Trim: Chenille by Silk City (maroon, mink and espresso), Aquarius by Trendsetter, Handpainted CHenille by Motomo Hand Dyed Yarns, Jaggerspun Merino (black), MIllinery wire (headsize and outer brim)
Special Techniques:
The hat was created by mixing millinery technique with knitting and embroidery. The hat was knit on circular needles then wet blocked and attached to millinery wire at the headsize and brim. Knit chenille leaves were strewn around the upper brim (the 2 leaves on the underbrim mark the center back of the hat). Finally, a chenille vine was embroidered around the sideband of the hat and French knot berries were added.
Artist's Statement:
I love knitting, I love hats - and I love the difference a good hat can make in a person's life! There are no bad hats, only misunderstood combinations of face shape and brim size.
For Sale:
$250.
Judges Notes:
What an elegant chapeau! Great colors, soft and snappily stylish.
