Knit another purely circular in red, cotton silks. ALso still pretty obsessed with skirt variations. GOt a giant cone of dk cream silk tape yesterday that will fit on the 7g machine. It's a little crispy. 2 more texture stitched HK halters, with fat oval loops of crochet on the wedged bottom.

The CitySearch profile came out, and life is great! Click on the picture of the shop for the profile. Those women are fantastic and right on top of things going on here. The site is filled with useful info, and easy to navigate. They're the first, aside from Lucire, to give the store press. Love Lisa Marie and Rebecca!

Business has been very brisk since this came out, and I'm knitting as fast as I can to have lots of things around. Very hard work, but very fun. Got a reference yesterday to a french woman who makes one of a kind baby knits, and needs a place to sell them. I'm seriously considering showing her work here, as I have no interest in knitting baby things, but the demand is definitely there. When I see her pieces, that will determine whether they are "luxurious" enough. Have I turned into a snot? No, just having problems with suppliers shoddy workmanship, delivering clothes that are dirty (believe it, I hardly could), and similar. What's the point if I don't maintain high standards? I guess I expect the work in my shop to reflect the same degree of attention to detail and attempt at perfectionism that mine exhibits. Gotta go mop the floor now. ;->

Really in skirt mode, and they're getting more detailed, linen knitted lace overskirts with crocheted edging, darker chiffon linings and hand stitching, beading etc. They look best with just a black or striped tshirt. Found a whole bunch of great old buttons yesterday down on lower broadway. horizontal Striped ribbons. microfiber underwear. colored chalk. wooden hangers. waiting for flip flops to arrive. My dog has Pica. Literally ate a part of M's old (clean) boxer shorts before we could stop him. Ate huge section of watermelon rind last week.

Skirts are getting wider. Have to watch that they don't become too heavy. Also using alot of white linen. Started working on a white linen tuck stitch knitted dress with an asymmetrical neckline, unseamed panels for the skirt sections, lined with pale turquoise chiffon. Found some fantastic bamboo beaded bags for the store from Indonesia. Also creamy woven water hyacinth flip flops that I'm probably going to make leather flowers for. Really, there aren't enough hours in the day.

Thinking about gardens, bamboo gazebos, Frank Lloyd Wright leaded glass (show at the American Craft Museum here in NY, going maybe tomorrow night with M).

Does anyone else have bad eyebrow waxing luck? Wherever I go, the salon woman does a weird job. (patches removed, 1 hair thin, etc..really you don't want to see this) Saturday, I treated myself at an expensive place, and this time the woman's hands were shaking so badly that I asked her to stop in the middle, picked off the gobs of stray wax from my bangs, and cleaned up the strays myself. She was plucking SKIN. Oh man, can anyone recommend a good place in Brooklyn or the city? I've about had it. EMail me if you know a reliable place. Thanks!

Working on 4 panel cotton & linen blend 7g MK skirts, using varieties of tuck stitches for shaping. Starting at the top, ewrap 1 quarter of your waist measurement plus a few inches, knit 20 rows, hang a hem, start a tuck pattern (in a looser gauge) and increase 2st( 1 each side) every 4 rows until you hit 1 quarter of your hip measurement. Knit straight for correct length. (of course you made a tension swatch!). You can continue increasing after you hit hip width until the bottom for a wide skirt (very nice), but increase the number of plain rows between increases to about 8 or 10 or more, or the increase slant is too steep. Adding machine lace for a few inches in a different color about 3 inches from the bottom on all panels. Make 4. Crochet the seams, closing the hemmed waistband carefully with a darning needle, (crocheting it is too bulky). Leave one hem open on the inside, and add a drawstring or elastic. Wash and block.

Hiking Update: Still traumatized from running across garter snake den next to the only stream in the woods last Sunday. It was extremely dry due to lack of rain for a few weeks, and apparently they had all gathered in this one moist spot. There was a very rare siting of a "snake ball" where a huge bunch of them form a roiling, tangled ball and mate. The guys and dogs were fascinated and got closer to watch. I was hopping around and screaming and couldn't stop. Remember that silly old fifties cartoon of a hysterical woman on top of a chair because there is a mouse in the room? While I knew I was making a fool of myself, I definitely just couldn't help it. There were dozens, if not thousands of snakes all over the place. Now having snake nightmares.

Incredible day today! The store got photographed and I got interviewed for the always way-ahead-of-the-pack CitySearch shopping section! This will be my first real "press" (digital, of course, very appropriate) since I opened in November of last year. Needless to say, I'm beside myself with doublemint pleasure. I'm a very lucky girl. I'll post the URL again in a week or 2 when it's online.

I researched Paypal, and found that as an online payment option for stores it's extremely viable, and in fact already setup for it, even with "shopping carts" coming soon. So now I'm designing a new site and (trying) to photograph some of my one-of-a-kind knits, so at least people can see what I'm talking about here, and easily buy them with a CC at wholesale prices should they so desire, although having to imagine them just from my description here can also have interesting results too, don't you think? At least I like to do that. Wow, that did run on. Gotta C...A...L....M down.

Plus, I got the absolute sweetest email ever yesterday, thank you so much Diane P! Your kind words are appreciated.

Made a pile of Kerchiefs (see just below), and now will be focusing on Hk & MK halters for the rest of the week. Lovely Marta will be watching the store on Sunday, so M and I will finally get a chance to take the hound hiking upstate together. I'm not even going to knit in the car, promise! Fresh air, here I come.
