Won a Passap DM80 on Ebay this week, and I'm thrilled!! You can do way more "3D" textures than the Japanese machines. The woman who's selling it is kind enough to hold it until we move, so I can have it shipped directly to my studio in the new house. M was less than thrilled to hear that I got another knitting machine. Tough titty said the kitty but the milk tastes good. ;->

Posted 5 more pictures of the shop. Yes, I know I should get some professional ones taken, but for some reason, to me, these have their charm. The percentage of crochet connectors, edgings, fill-ins etc per garment is rising. My knitting is becoming a hybrid creature, at least for now. Raided the storage space yesterday for different yarns, found heavy silks, lots of cottons, pale pink linen. Made some black crocheted nylon & coral branch necklaces, silver clasps.

My neighbor Mia and I found 2 lavender wooden and black iron benches for the front of the store! They are making me really happy, it's breezy and great to hang out out there. They make the whole block look pretty. (not easy to do). I was offered 3 boxes of old textiles from an estate sale yesterday, and although they looked moldy, I took them. Turned out to have some incredible old textiles in there!!! Very large kashmir woven shawl, probably 1800's, beautiful condition, some pieces of metal embroidery on silk, handwoven silk runner, Maps printed on handkerchiefs, including one "restricted" one from the government, circa 1943. It says so right on it! Incredible stuff. A macrame book, why haven't those plant holder things come back yet? Everything else has. An Emilio Pucci tie. Purple. Not knitting, cleaning and organizing. Working on a new online shop design.

Just posted 7 pictures of the shop.

Lovely talented costume designer in the store yesterday, I love doing that kind of work! If I'm going to obsess about every angle and stitch, it might as well be preserved on film and projected 40 feet high. Working on the "VikingEsque" HK hat shape for fall. This one's definitely very easy to knit, having thoughts of designing a kit to make it. Spaced out, and missed registration at FIT for the warp knit engineering classes. Shit! Now I have to wait for next semester, or whenever they reappear. Can't wait to design for those giant machines. Now my eye dissects every interesting stocking pattern, and people must think I'm weird for staring at their ankles and calves. Industrial knits are so diverse. I haven't figured out the logic yet. Need some experience in a factory.

Been working hard, also think I'm just talked out for a while. ALthough it's very hot out, I started on a new Perforated Pop-n-Fresh hat shape for fall, just need to touch soft wool! This pattern alternates between a crochet hook and knitting needles a few times to get the yarn to do what I want it to. Getting really tired of non-elastic yarns like linen and cotton. Started a series of crocheted nylon, sterling silver charm and semiprecious stone jewelery, it's interesting to work that tiny (size 7 crochet hook). Still working out sideways knitted technical questions.

Started packing for the move (in 6 weeks) to the house. Going to put Valium in M's coffee. Ok, I'm very excited too. Have decoration scheme for the house and planting pattern for the yard all planned in my head.

Just taking Sunday off this week, as tired as I am, I'm on a creative roll, and really want to keep it going. Started MK knitting long sleeve sweaters completely sideways, and it opens up a whole new set of challenges and technical questions. Lace that is on the diagonal makes a V pattern on the seams, gathers on the chest can be made with selected slip stitch patterns built right in, I love this! More and more, I'm building the shaping in with stitches. Utilizing the natural tendency to go wider, draw in etc where it will work on the body to advantage. Got two new mannequins yesterday. Store is becoming very populated with headless torsos.

Wandering with an agenda: Down Atlantic Avenue to Baltic Bazaar, got over a pound of wet spun linen yarn for $6.50, big bag of salted corn nuts for M (at Sahadi), hopped subway then to Williamsburg, made hair appt, looked in shops and bought gardenia scented soap, drank pineapple, pear, ginger and aloe vera juice concoction. Back on the train to Manhattan, went to Downtown Knits on Avenue A & 3rd street, got 2 "REBECCA" magazines (german knitting) Dpn's size 9's and U shaped cable hooks. Walked till feet were sore. Orchard Street: found black polartec gloves with a tiny black patent zippered purse on one wrist, on sale (winter dog walking ). Got home and got good news and bad news. Sign maker didn't come through, and I have to make new lettering arrangements for my 6 foot tall lightbox thingie above the store, but got a double check in the mail from a client. Ok, I'm going to have to call him tommorrow and point out the error and send it back, aren't I? Or should I run and buy a stupid expensive pair of shoes?

Finally got a new sponge bar for my bulky ribber, and have been happily enjoying MK jumbo gauge for the last few days. The store is CLOSED this week, as I desperately need R & R, as evidenced by my last few postings. Nerves are shot from working so hard the last 6 months, in addition to the buying of the house stress (try it sometime, I had no idea although I was warned).

Going to spend this week wandering around, getting some much needed excercise, (see "knitter's can"), hair done, nails done, regular girly stuff I've been neglecting. Actually looking at and shopping for clothes I didn't make. May go to Ocean Grove for an overnighter, although what I really want is to just stay home.

Spend quality time with my BF and dog. Hands still, not looping.

Had a frustrating day yesterday. Still don't know how to handle people who come in the store and talk *at* me for *HOURS*. Finally just turned around and starting knitting on the machine (noisy, in case you don't know). It doesn't even begin to resemble a conversation. My sense of diplomacy gets mixed with anger, and I just don't say anything. Should start bringing the dog in whan he's got gas. I've also decided not to give lessons, as there was someone in the store yesterday anxious that I teach her, who told me she sells her knits to another store in my neighborhood. What are people thinking? I try to always have unique knits in the shop, not the same things someone down the road has. So am I going to teach my secrets? Don't think so. My original attitude to teach all is probably a leftover from working as a web developer, where "information wants to be free". But my knitting patterns and tricks do not. ;-> GOing to try to go to the Jersey shore for a few days very soon. Not Asbury though, last time at the Pink Flamingo Motel, I had two prostitutes fistfighting outside my door. Asbury has finally sunk too low to enjoy the squalor. Will bring handknitting. Really enjoying the circular thing, and get a tiny kick when there is only 2 ends to weave in, and it's done.
