Email trouble: If anyone has recently sent me an email, and not received a reply, it's because my ISP's email server is f*cked up, and I can't retrieve my mail. This is going on the 4th day, and I'm ready to switch. Any suggestions for NY based domain and web server hosting that's reliable? I'm currently using Onepine, which used to be excellent, but now is garbage in terms of being frequently disconnected, and taking days to fix email problems.

Thank you! I guess you can't email me this info right now though!

Incredible link for cheeeeeep weird stuff: American Science & Surplus. They even have robot parts.

Saw "A Waking life" last night, partially animated by Jean Caffiene, the drummer in my old band, Pulsallama. Way to go, Jean!! The visuals are pretty interesting, obviously the proprietary software used was vector-based, love to get hold of a copy and play with it. Unfortunately, the "story" was like a weeks worth of drunken/stoned what is the meaning of life college/high school musings, which we found annoying in the extreme to sit through. All the way home, we trotted out every "sound of one hand clapping" joke we could think of. I need some gritty realism today, which I'm sure I'll get in spades at the store.

Still haven't revved back up to speed after laying off knitting for a whole week. CLeaning the studio, doing laundry, etc, till the muse hits again. Getting ready for the Open House next Saturday, swing by if you're in the hood, and say Hi. We're having hot chocolate and wax lips. I'm hoping it gets colder, it's really warm today.

The good stuff first: A fellow Brooklyn knitter's blog. Fab! Leads to many interesting knitting links, like this one. And thank you to the bizarre person who spent time making these graphs. Jeezuz, Captain Kirk, my first image of a manly man. Ok, more than a bit of a hambone as well, but he always got the space babes, didn't he? Chicks love ham, which is what we're having for Thanksgiving, I just decided.

Got some beautiful felted bags and little purses in brilliantly colored wools made in Nepal for the shop. They have 3/4" felted balls in every color sewn to them in a very tight pattern. I just want to pet these things! The rep thought I was nuts. Wool Boucle fishnets from Levante! Trompe l'oeil long sleeved black jersey tops from France with the image of a corset or ruffled shirt screen printed right on them in white. Minimal Flatland is alive and well.

There are some days when running the shop is very fun. I even love the UPS man. He's like Santa all year. Thanks John!

Spent the last 2 days deep in a groove, the ZONE don't ya know. I smelled a bit last night, but SHiT I was productive. Until I find production help making things for the store, it's got to be like this, at least till the end of the year. Thank you M. for understanding. Made....

6 cashmere/merino tanks or muscle tops, each different, with either a cowl, asymmetrical or boat neck. 3 scarves in a texture stitch, and 2 skirts. All were finished by hand, handwashed and blocked. Switched to the 7g machine, so everything is light as air. Maybe too light for the skirts, those may become SHOULDER AWNINGS!
I need a vacation.

I'm starting to think about making another animation to M's music, and have been researching to rest my eyes. Hopefully in January, I'll close the store for a week or 2, and focus on this, and not knit. Going to work with my all time favorite program again, Knot. Letting it rest for a few years (! has it been that long?) has given me a new perspective. Can't wait. Our past efforts can be found here, if you've got the time.

Knitting 4g merino wool "Extra A-Line" skirts that stop around mid-knee, and gather in the back. There is a bottom crocheted edging in large half ovals. Hemmed waistband with picot eyelets in the turn, knit down in jersey, increasing 1 (full fashioned, I like 7 st. in) each side every 4 rows x10, then every 8 x4. 2/3rds down, knit in a pronounced texture (tuck, which also expands horizontally, just what you want going on down there) stitch for border, bind off at 100%.

Got some great alternative poncho names from Ellen, {thanks} She says:

Shoulder (or Body) Awning, Body Wrap or just Wrap, Soft Wings (looks like wings when open your arms wide), Body 'Brella.

I'm loving shoulder awning especially. I wrote that on a receipt already!

Have been knitting asymmetrical scarves in cashmere, kid mohair and merino, texture stitches, some are outlined in a darker shade of the same color range. Skirts that are 80% jersey, with a larger than A-line flair, bordered with texture that makes the skirt stretch horizontally, and crocheted loops around the bottom. Very Heidi on a monotone day. Crocheted suede drawstring holds it up. Browns, oranges, pinks and reds.

We've been watching some very old movies, 20's and 30's, and the clothes all look so soft and beautiful. I'm leaning in that direction for spring, but it's also creeping into the winter things I'm making now. Cat hat mania lives on.

We went to the corner Sunday and watched the NYC marathon go by. We went early, and saw the wheelchair division, which I had missed last year. The range of ages and types of people running was astounding and very interesting. Crowd support was intense this year, and when we went home, my hands were numb from clapping. It was an extremely inspiring experience. It made me feel optimistic. Fewer costumes this year, more "in memorial" runners.

First the good stuff: Crochet a peace dove: Instructions. Or, knit a peace sign into your next project: The Graph to print out.

Personal hooie: NO KIDS last night at the door collecting candy. Not a single one. How deeply depressing. Hope it was more lively where you live. The best part of being a kid was the once a year piles of candy, and the stomache-ache producing eating frenzy that followed. Kids are being cheated, bigtime.

They say imitation is a form of flattery, but I find it deeply annoying.
