An excellent machine knit sock tutorial and pattern.

12:55 am....finishing a open shouldered merino cowl neck sweater, work is pretty much all encompassing right now. Took time out to make a Boboli pizza for the one-useful-handed M, pet the dog, and went right back to work. Taking Xmas and the day after off with NO knitting allowed.
Bought M a live 2 foot blue spruce in the pot, we'll plant it in the backyard in the spring. Xmas is very minimalist this year, he wants nothing on it. So it's on the coffee table enticing the dog. Pirco perfected a Glitten (glove/mitten combo, thumb and forefinger are articulated, the other three fingers are in a mitten like cocoon) pattern, and she knit a lovely pair that's bewildering customers. I love them! They're like lobster claws. Oh man, I signed up to Yahoo KnitFlame list, and the shit is really flying. I enjoyed it for a few days, but now it's just exhausting to read. What could be worse than reading a vehement argument bewteen many people? Got to unsub asap. 12.20.2001
Tons-O-knitting-patterns at Sarah Bradberry's site Knitting-And. I mean enough to keep you busy for quite a while.
I finally gave in and bought another pair of Addi size 35 circular knitting needles. Why would I need another pair? Because I promptly lost the first set. Immediately. And they are about $18. a pop. But they are a blast, you can knit a scarf in about 45 seconds. I'm not a minaiturist I think, but an extremist. Have been cranking out 7g knitted fingerless mitts, which are very popular this year at the shop. They come up to the elbow, and have a hole for the thumb. Merino wool and cashmere. 1x1 rib for stretch, knitted at a tight tension. 12.15.2001
I like to fancy myself a bit of a miniaturist, at least I appreciate tiny things, but size 2s are the same as logs to this lady:
Annelies de Kort's impossibly tiny handknitted sweaters. 12.14.2001
Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday knitting miniature versions of the CatHat and a crocheted beret with earflaps for 2 of my disembodied antique doll heads. These are now in the window of the shop scaring little children.

Sarah-Marie's page of Mathematical Knitting. This woman's work is awe-inspiring.
Oh..... my god, I found a Dishcloth Boutique. Be sure you chose the "Java" site (really javascript) so you can see the pictures right away of what the pattern will make.
I love these things. It seems the height of luxury to own a handknitted facecloth or dishtowel. I've used cotton warp thread (Maysville, for weavers, School Products carries it, and they do mail order) with a size 2 (us) knitting needle, which tightens up and gets softer after you wash it.
Ok, Seem to have gotten the Blog working again, but the Archives are still not republishing. Will be working on restoring that day to day as I have time, I'm sure it's just a missing bracket or some dumb thing.
I whined for years about not having sharp knives in the kitchen, so M went and bought me a faboo expensive set a few weeks ago to shut me up, and then promptly almost cut his pinky off, using the sawing motion we are used to to cut a roll. Emergency room and 8 stitches ensued, and now after going to get the stitches removed, just found out he has to get surgery to repair the tendons. At least the dog is not responsible (like the broken toe)! Oh boy. Knitting is a real escape for me these days, more so than usual. Knit a dark green "housedress", which is in the store window right now, with crocheted loop trim cap sleeves, hem and cowl neck. After I made it, it immediately reminded me somhow of an "indian" dress I had when I was a kid, tan faux suede with fringes on the short sleeves and hem, A line of course. As I always say, you have to be very careful what you let in, because it always comes back out. I'm working on including pictures of what I talk about, imagining it is getting old, I know. Having camera problems now as well, though. Must hang in there. Will be giving 3-4 person classes starting in January at the shop. So far have a beginning knitting, and a circular knitting class filled. Found a supplier of Geelong wool yarn, which is only found in Australia. These sheep produce a fabulous soft wool, better than merino. I hope to have that in the shop in January, as well. Working on Ecommerce part of this site, so you don't have to come to Brooklyn to get it. 12.07.2001
Well, my ISP and web host went out of business without notifying ANYONE. Just unplugged.
Richard Northrup of Onepine.com, You are a Flaming Asshole. I was interviewed by investigative reporter Erin Joyce this am regarding the whole thing. Hopefully will be a story on Internet.com. I want to get back to normal, and think about yarn and design, not this bull. Back up and running (if your reading this) on hostproof.com. Please hope this doesn't happen too often, it's taken 2 weeks to repair. Knitting Stitch Portfolio got a redesign, and will get some new cable patterns soon. |
