Why can' t the USA be this progressive? Therapeutic Cannibis Delivery If you've ever been to Amsterdam, you know what a non-issue pot smoking is. How much money would this country not waste if we stopped prosecuting people who need it for medical reasons? Or even entertainment value? It's also just simply a humanitarian thing to do.

My twin Alexandra and I both have front teeth chipped in childhood swimming pool incidents. Is this common, or not?

I'm really tired, and work on the studio building is just beginning. It's going to be so excellent when I get all the issues sorted out. I got a pounding headache this afternoon going over the sublease contract with my lawyer friend Ian, o man, I'm no dummy, but a few of his points were totally incomprehensible to me, I felt like I was reading Chinese. He rewrote the whole thing for me In Legalese. My version was a combination of downloaded standard contract and added points that are specific to this situation.

My eyes are both glazed and crossed. But 3 of them are now signed, I have the keys, and we're on our way!!!!!

No, I've not had any time to knit. How ridiculous is this: I open a shop to sell knitwear, and am to busy to knit. Somethings gotta give, and soon.

Made the bobble instructions in the Olive Bobbles hat pattern a little clearer, thanks to Isabella's request.

Hi Jaklyn!

Poking around looking for the results of the last press release I sent out. Looks like the Hindustan Times article is making the rounds. I love the freakin internet! How else could you track these memes? I found these knitting links:

Tommy Hilfiger & knitting: http://tommyhilfiger.newstrove.com/ All the current Tommy Hilfiger news? Huh? What's that got to do with me? (although I used to do knit development for them years ago). Oh, I just realized his name was put in the story. Look for that hat on the runway next season. No hard feelings, I know it works that way.

Textile News: http://www.textiles.com/s/textiles/knitting.html Lots of interesting recent knitting articles.

And a motherload of industrial (mixed with a few consumer) knitting links here: http://www.findrex.com/fashion/knit.htm

And the interesting Australian fashion site Lucire: http://www.lucire.com/lp.shtml

I've been swamped with getting the studio building tenants signed up, and tracking down and contracting a painter and plumber/ partition builder to get the building ready. Still showing spaces. Meeting with people soon. Gotta get outta here..

Alex and I are trading pics (I'll dig mine out tonight) to confirm that we were indeed cruelly separated in a very, very, extremely long birth process.

Interested in "Massive Tits"? Redlipstick.COM, not net. *sigh* Pity the poor knitters just a-lookin' for a hat pattern.

1.28.2003
Holy MoFo! I have a doppleganger! Her name is Alex, and she sent me a picture of herself, and it looks EXACTLY like a picture of me! I've asked her for permission to post both of our pictures so you can see the uncanny resemblance, I'm in shock. What do you think?

This is BETTER than a clone, no diapers! And OF COURSE, she's a knitter! I think I'm in love! It's like loving yourself, can't describe it.

Will you look at how cute Alex is? hehe

For your knitting enjoyment, The Olive Bobbles Hat Pattern. Not linked to from anywhere just yet. For the knitters/readers of my blog only right now. That means You.

Bobbles Ahoy

Olive Bobbles, part of the "Elfin" series. Modeled by my newest antique doll head, almost (baby) lifesize! Do enjoy just the tiny smile. She has two real teeth.

I'm going to post this pattern here, probably later, most of it's written already, but on the computer at the shop.

1.25.2003
Anybody knit up a pair of these Mesh Stockings? I'm curious as to how they come out. Size #1's & #3's, which I enjoy, but could each day please be 6 or 7 hours longer, so I can justify knitting things like this?

Really getting obsessed with bobbles in pattern.

Have one small unrented space in the studio bldg. Can still proceed without renting it before the 1st, I'm just going to have to do some slick financial juggling to get the 2 partitions built, walls painted, and install new acoustical ceiling tiles, which are filthy and waterstained . Taking a trip down to Home Depot ( yeah!) on Monday to price this stuff, then absorb the shock. *sigh* I realized today that my studio is not on the duct path, therefore: not heated, and there's no hot water running into it either, which makes the whole finishing knits thing not very doable (yet). Call plumber. Reroute water pipe. $$$$. Damn it. Has industrial grade electrical system though.

Plumber never showed up at home, will be resetting the boiler there until Monday, then I'm going to start charging for my services.

1.24.2003
Guess this is the Year Of The Hat, as that's all I've been knitting, except for 5 or 6 scarves. Still tired, I guess. Will have some new hat shapes posted later. Working on one now with bobbles, which really interest me all of a sudden.

Personal Hooie: Been "servicing" (manually resetting the water level, feeder is broken) the boiler in my apt. building every 5 hours for the past 2 days to keep the heat working, so I'm going to know pretty well how to take care of ancient heating equipment before this is over. Apparently, I'm the only person who's able to understand this rocket science level piece of machinery, the other adults in the building are very content to let me deal with it. Thanks! Probably it's good experience for when I buy my own old, decrepit house. In below freezing temps, it's more than a bit of a drag though. The plumber is supposed to fix it this afternoon. Come on, Jerry! You can do it! :-<

I know it's a cycle, if you CAN do it, you somehow will end up doing it. know what I mean? I have *too many* skills! :->

Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living. -Anais Nin, writer (1903-1977)

That's nice, Anais, but have you ever lived in Brooklyn?

My friend and round the corner girl Esa, of the infamous ARTKRUSH has agreed to host a series of art exhibits in the common space of the Bergen Street Studios this summer. This is going to be so great for my neighborhood! Esa was the first person I met from my blog, actually, when we both met the lovely and charming Carolyn for Thai food last year. A very exciting development, expect full coverage and pictures when the events occur!

Working on drafting commercial sublease contracts, (zzzzzzz). Classes will be taught in my new studio space, I'm getting a washer and dryer in there, so I can expand the range of classes to include felting. It'll be so nice to have a bit of room and more students! Teaching in the shop was very, very tight, and I was always knocking things over. Have to do alot of cleaning, painting, mild renovation. Major Scrubbing. You can practically see the germs walking around. Uck. Going to strap scrub brushes on dogs feet so he can help.

Did you know that Brown Sheep Lambs Pride in colors "Sun Yellow", "Creme" and "White Frost" will not felt because of the bleach used in the dyeing process? Read about it here.

I want a WYR KNTTR!!

Find this stuff to be fascinating: Conversational Terrorism. One of my all time favorites is in there: "What exactly do you mean by that?", used to show up someone who's handing you a veiled insult. Works every time, and I wish I'd not been too polite to use it on my exboyfriends godfearing, flaming assholian friends. Reading this reminded me of X, because he used all of them on me to avoid ever discussing anything serious for years. I'm not kidding. My stomach was turning as I read it. (fixed the missing bracket on link, sorry!)

Ranjit's hosting Lantern Fest in Prospect Park again this year!

Loved, LOVED the Jan. 17 rabbit blog entry.

It's a strange thing that I just didn't bother to get involved with downloading MP3's until I got this new machine, it has Limewire on it, and I started messing with it. Now I get in the mood every morning drinking my barrel of light, no sugar coffee, and listening to 6 different versions in a row of "I Wanna Be Sedated", only one of them by the Ramones, the rest incredible covers. It is a very zen thing and helps me concentrate. :->. You listen closely for the subtle differences in what feels like a very circular song.

I like it when patterns are sorted out this way, because sometimes you just want to knit on a certain size, because you like the way it feels, and the knitting seems like it grows fast enough for the effort put into it: Patterns arranged by Needle Needed (US size given) The patterns are free. I'd love to see this page expand.

The world is a mysterious place. I finally got some press! In the Hindustan Times! Oh Mary, how incredibly cool! I'm scared and happy today! Started another business AND got press all in one day. I'm cracking open the plum wine. Plus my friend Ingrid's dad is visiting, and he's going to teach me to rewire lamps next weekend, which I've been obsessing about for a long time. Today was a good day.

The Open House at the studio bldg. went pretty well this am, I only have one studio not spoken for, of course, until the contracts are all signed and the money is in the bank, it's still very much up in the air. Anna and I decided not to become equal partners in any case, she will be renting there instead, she'll be the buildings (hardware) woman, in exchange for a reduction in rent, which suits me fine. It was just overkill with both us, plus I make decisions and act on them extremely quickly, and it's a royal pain in the ass to stop and discuss every damn thing with someone, I realized that's not something I really want to do. By the time I've explained what I'm doing to someone, it could be done and on to the next thing. Working for yourself, if you're like this, is the only way to not be slowed down. We're both ok with how it's shaking out.

Looks good so far, can't wait to have a studio again. NyaNya Na NyaNya, Kitty, aka Miss Vinegar! This is exciting.

The New York Public Library's "Image Gate" just went beta. I can imagine spending waaaaay too much time here. Did a search on "knitting", and 2 versions of knitting nuns came up. Hmmmm.

Looks like the artists studio building project is happening. I asked a friend of mine, Anna, who's a sculptor, to be my partner running it so I don't feel so overwhelmed with responsibility, and she agreed to very enthusiastically! She'll have a studio there as well. We're both very excited about it. We met with Ervine (the landlord) this am to go over square footage and look at the building again. He's an awesome older neighborhood guy who's very supportive of the project. Open House is next Saturday for prospective resident artists. We hope to get the building up and running by Feb.

It's colder outside than the proverbial witches tit here, with wind chill, I'm sure it's hovering around zero, and I can't take it. The shop had little to no heat today, and I felt like an asshole wearing 2 sweaters, jacket and a hat, inside. Have a space heater, but have to get out the ladder and move furniture to get it down from the crawlspace above the bathroom, must do that tommorrow. Nobody could try anything on, either. Did brisk business in hats today, though.

Safari doesn't work with Blogger Pro. Shit.

Ok, to clarify, but not get into a long discussion about, as I find science fiction buffs can be as rabid and relentless as people who must flog, I mean discuss politics: I love real life, real deep emotion, real psychological complexities, whether understood or only withstood. Realistic adult behaviour, not fully grown adults wistfully acting and thinking like they were a perpetual 19. Adult being the keyword here. I've found, that for me, most science fiction is on an emotional and psychological level of a teenage male. Doesn't get much more boring than that for a 40 something woman like myself. Can't help it, don't care if other people enjoy it, but I avoid it like the plague. Gibson's fiction is adult, not teen. Psychologically rich, not just tits spilling out of spandex spacesuits alternating with endless duking it out. I watch the Sopranos, not Buffy, which explains it all in a nutshell. You could not pay me to be a teenager again, unless my brain could stay the same. It has to do with the mental level that you choose, or are capable of existing on. I must always go forward, not back. I want to expose myself to things I don't understand yet, not things I experienced 20 years ago.

Shit, just take a look at the books Gibson recommends on his blog today. It doesn't get any better/richer/more exquisite than this.

Ok, I'm done. Completely done. You can wake up now! Next hat...

Generally anything Sci-Fi, fantasy-based or magical makes me want to puke in my pocket with extreme boredom, but I do have a soft spot for William Gibson, who just launched his blog. No, I definitely did not read Harry Potter, and have no intention of doing so in this lifetime.

However, I DID order some leather belts for spring that have a rearing Unicorn on a huge buckle, just to be perverse. That's more of a teen girlie thing though, no? They made me laugh. In the shop in March sometime.

I gave in and downloaded Safari, the new OSX browser. Liked it right off because it makes text TINY, like us Mac people like it, not retarded and Huge, like Windows people are used to. Efficient, pretty, no excess icons, extremely fast. Haven't figured out the bookmark arrangement yet, although all mine were seamlessly imported form explorer. I like it alot. No bugs yet, although I'm sure they're in there.

Per Shobhana's request, the Marsan Watchcap now has a picture, and I updated the page in general. That was posted in 1996, for cryin' out loud. Jeez, time flies. I think that was one of the first patterns I put up on the net, or even wrote down.

Mac Geek Alert: If you're running OSX, Apple just released a new, lightning fast web browser called SAFARI. Warning. It's a Beta release. I'm hoping to be 100% Microcrap free again soon, but don't have time for bug reports right now. Still, it's nice to have a choice again.

I re-open the shop tommorrow, after taking 8 days off. Briefly considered taking another week off, as I only started to relax on Sunday. Had a flea market/lunch date then with an old sweetheart (not the last (pin)prick). He was the inspiration for the Marsan Watchcap. Lovely that after all this time, I could still see what was so beautiful about him, what I fell in love with years ago. Not the "What the hell was I thinking?" thing. Very much enjoyed that on Sunday, with none of the associated emotional baggage or expectations. I wasn't expecting it. Plus, got 10 '50s unused sewing patterns for $2.50 each, exactly my size, and a bizarre '70s brown leather jacket that's reversible to suede. Really like things that are good on both sides (yes, that has multiple meanings ;->), and it's interesting to see how they resolved the technical issues. Fits like a glove.

I have a very intriguing date tonight. Tall, burly, bald, some rough edges, some very polished ones, funny and sweet. I feel my old life returning to me like an energizing orange liquid. I missed me. Now I have to go do laundry.

Spent the last 2 days alternately reading (looking at the pictures in) "A New Kind of Science" , cutting fabric into sewable shapes, crocheting hats with symmetical holes in them, sleeping. Walking the dog. Making tea. Watching entire movies. Folding sweaters, turning the bathtub faucet on for 1 minute for the cat. Napping. Sewed together 2 wool skirts. Not TALKING> ! ;->
