Studio building has almost been restored to it's former tatty glory, have to find an ironworker to add a window grate and fix a few other metal "parts" that got damaged. Now focusing on a few renovations to the shop, hopefully next week. My new cabinet came yesterday, it's a beat-up beauty. Will bring camera to work today. Working on setting up sewing room this am. Hot.

Deeply tired of Benny Goodman now, a little of that stuff goes a long way, although he was a genius. Not like Elvis, who I never tire of.

Super busy these past few days, Renovation is now underway at the studio building, my apartment is slowly getting organized and unpacked, did taxes with my accountant this afternoon, mentally planning a little store reno in a week or two. Visited both Home Depot and Loewes today. Made phone arrangements with movers and seller to pickup and deliver a gorgeous vintage glass library display case to the shop tommorrow afternoon. Can't wait!

Rode down to Red Hook to get a piece of cake at this place yesterday. I was desperate for a piece of Sweet and Salty, that being my new favorite taste combination. They were out of it. Had the Malted Chocolate instead. Definitely will be visiting again when I feel the need for incredible cake. It truly was tender and luscious....mmmm....very light. I love cake.

I never want to touch or smell another paper box.

Heavily into Benny Goodman right now, especially the big band era. incredible.

I had a very unexpected, bizarre "adventure" starting mid-afternoon Monday, and ending mid-afternoon Tuesday. If you're a friend of mine, I'll give the gory details when I see you, otherwise, just marking this spot to remind me when it happened. Thank you so much for taking care of my animals, Anna!! I'm sooooo happy to be home. Got a major shift in appreciation for all I have and my life due to this event. Sorry for the secrecy, but not all is public. Appreciating the little things in a big way, like a cup of freshly ground coffee on demand, etc. sigh. Hot water.

Finally, a day to concentrate on getting set back up, plumber comes at 10 to fix clogged kitchen sink {yes, ALREADY}.

It was very, very hot yesterday, so I closed a bit early, and walked the mammoth, heinous 7th Avenue fair with my friend Jean Boggs {hey jean!}. We ate hot salad, a spring roll and an ice from Uncle Louie. Not an arepa to be found! Damn it! I always forget how much I despise those street fairs here in NY, they're really, really awful, but we managed to have some fun anyway, and no, we didn't buy any ubiquitous tube socks. Rode home afterwards the long way around the park. It was HOT.

I now have a dedicated cutting table, can't wait to use it. Every piece of machinery I use now will have it's own "station" in this place, the studio is getting set-up very efficiently, and I really can't wait to start designing again. Hopefully by next week.

Tommorrow, working with Sebastian, my contractor, to repair the studio buildings damages from both the flood and the break-in. Spending time at Home Depot. whoopee. SO sick of construction issues. UPDATE: Sebastian canceled, he has another job that's taking longer than planned for, a real surprise, eh? I'm THRILLED. Now I have two days to do as I please, which may include a trip to the beach tommorrow instead. Work is rescheduled till next week. :->

Email has returned, oh Spam, how I missed thee! {yeah right}. Thinking about knitted rugs, window treatments, blankets, lamps, any large object designed to use up the gigantor stash. Ordered two big arc lamps for overhead work light, they came in last week, and now this am trying to put them together.

Shop is still busy, this spring has been spectacular business-wise. Looking for camera cable now, having found battery charger. {sigh...} Handknitting small gauge doilies in cotton or silk for insertions. Starting to come out of mental moving haze..woohooo! Mucho thanks everyone for the good wishes. David, just keep plowing ahead, and get friends to help you pack!

I just realized...I did it! I moved! It was a huge job. satisfaction.

6.16.2006
Email is collecting on a server somewhere, it's not being bounced back, and I think the problem is in Austria on my host's server. I've not heard back from him in 3 days regarding the glitch, highly unusual, and I'm getting ticked off. I don't have the damned time for this! spent hours already tracking and tracerouting, checking paths and confirming viability of accounts.

So, still no email, until the day it gets fixed, then I'll have thousands of crap emails to wade through. FUCK!

*Still* unpacking, which I'm also getting deathly sick of. The only thing worse than touching every dumb, heavy, useless thing you own is HAVING TO TOUCH IT TWICE! ARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

This apt. has stupid problems due to non-maintainance, like the sink backs up after washing 4 dishes, and leaks underneath. Going to kick something today, better stay out of my way. A highly frustrating day already, and I'm still in my underwear.

6.13.2006
eMail is still not working, so if you emailed me and have not heard back, that's why. Hoping to get this resolved today or tommorrow. I feel like a new person. It's quiet here, and the air quality is great, not filled with bus exhaust.

Out for errands all day...barely have time to unpack, and the boxes and bags all over the apt. are starting to annoy... it's going to take longer to unpack than it did to pack. *sigh*

Soon, will be completely moved, another 2 days. I am happier than I've been in years, the new place is GREAT!!! I feel like a 1000 lb gorilla has been knocked off my back. I was forced to live in the old place for various reasons, and this is the start of a shiny new chapter. Penny and Murphy, my sweet little cartoonish pets, are already "rock stars" in my new 'hood. I told one neighbor kid their names, and already every kid for three blocks fawns over them and knows their names when we walk around. It's fun and very much a closeknit neighborhood. People watch out for each other, even "Gladys Kravits", my neighbor across the street. Next week should see me completely unpacked, and starting to design again. I admit I desperately needed a mental break, and I got it. WOOHOO. Happy.

Starting work on a book of mathematically designed texture and color stitch patterns, I want to finish the majority of the content before I shop it around, the reason being I want to take my sweet time, not conform to an external deadline. It may take a year, or five. No matter. I have the room and stability to pursue so much more now. I will be posting online the original article I wrote for "KnitKnit" magazine {#4} which explains the groundwork for these designs. Most likely it will cost you $2. to read it. It has two texture patterns included, designed using overlapping number sequences applied to knitting "rules". I have been waiting and planning for over 20 years to start this project, and I won't be rushed to a less than satisfactory conclusion. Satisfaction according to me. :->

Life is good right now.

Moved the majority of stuff last Wednesday, I'm so happy! The new place has some issues still to be worked out, but in general, it's so nice! I'm just so happy to be out of that dump on Washington. I have one more day of sorting and packing the stored archives in the old place, then I'm getting the rest of it moved to the studio building on Tuesday. After a comprehensive purge, I find the new place has more than ample room for my stuff, and plenty of room to spread out and work, more than enough, actually. The layout is very different from the old place, so I wasn't sure.

Animals have responded really well, I was worried they'd react poorly. I think they were comforted by their beds, toys and rugs, just a little confused as to why it was in a completely different place. :-> We already have a nice long walk route established along grassy {and poopy} Eastern Parkway. Apparently not many people pick up their dog's crap in my new 'hood, it's a little gross.

Posting from the shop laptop, will be re-attached to the net on Monday. Running a slight fever today due to over-exertion {not from you, Ranjit!}. Anna and I estimated we packed over a ton of yarn alone, not counting the huge collection of books I've amassed. Made a promise to myself that I'm not moving the yarn again, plan on using it up! I have been using it for 6 years already, and have hardly made a dent, so am now thinking of large objects to knit. Have some on the horizon.

Over 50% unpacked at this point. Sleeping like a log at night. Pix after I find my camera's battery charger.

Losat about 8 lbs this past few weeks, just in time for summer. New place requires a longer bike ride into work, it's just right for working off my healthy case of "Knitter's Can".

6.04.2006
Unplugging tommorrow, although I still have wireless access with the shop ibook. Still an enormous amount to do. sigh :-<. Panicking slightly, on the inside. Shop is closed Monday through Thursday next week, re-opening on Friday. Here we go...

Apartment renovation is not finished, I looked last night. Annoyed about it, as my new landlady has taken off for a 2 week vacation, and left me with no-one to call if there's a problem, or even a mailbox key. Hiring a contractor to finish, and taking it out of the rent, a piss poor way to start off a new tenancy. I don't have time for this, as I need to also get a contractor to repair the studio building after the move, there's now a hole in the building where a vent was kicked in from outside, etc.

Not enough hours in the day.

I vaguely remember getting a letter from Network Solutions informing me I needed to renew the redlipstick.net domain name a few months ago, and know I put it someplace to take care of when I got the chance. This am, I realized the site has been down for a day or so, I think, due to domain name expiration. Ok, all renewed now and back in time for more deadly boring moving posts. :->

FIlthy with dust, swamped with work and packing, and hoping the next week goes by in a blur. Thank you, Chris, for the boxes! Anna's helping me pack next Monday and Tuesday, then pet-sitting my creatures in the studio all Wednesday morning while I supervise the movers. Jen helped me clean out my studio space last Monday, I couldn't have done it without her. I am extremely lucky to have organized and energetic friends. I love them!!! THANK YOU!!

6.01.2006
My poor studio building is having a run of bad luck: we got broken into last night. The good news is that the thieves broke into the construction lot next door first, and broke into the studio building looking for more tools afterwards, maybe not realizing we're a bunch of artists. So they didn't take anything I'm aware of, only damaged alot of things, a vent, doors, screens and an electrical pipe on the outside. A few of the studio doors were smashed in, but nothing taken. The stupid thing is that on Monday, the padlock to my studio broke, so my space wasn't even locked. They didn't go in there, so my bikes and knitting machines were safe. ;-> I spent all morning with the cops and fingerprint gals from the 77th precinct. Now, there's even more fixing work to do, we haven't even begun to repair the damage from the flood. *huge fucking sigh*

I had planned on spending the am quietly sorting and packing.

Mild skirmish with new landlady yesterday over a new stove, since the old one is trashed. Today, she agreed to supply one in 2 months.

On it goes. Somehow things get accomplished despite the interruptions.
