Taking a blogger break for a few days, I just want to work and not "talk". See ya in September with pictures from the 2006 West Indian Day Parade {weather permitting}! ALso some Fall knits.
Yes, this lady's been in my shop many times. It's all true. 8.25.2006
Spent the entire am struggling with tissue weight silver metallic jersey, jesus CHRIST THAT SHIT IS HARD TO SEW PROPERLY....sigh... No pictures of the mornings crap work, obviously. Hoping I can salvage it, not sure. My machine keeps "eating" it, meaning it gets sucked into the hole where the bobbin thread comes out. While this is great for cleaning that little hole, it's really really bad for whatever you're sewing. I got lucky and made no holes in the fabric, and actually have an idea to save the dress, not sure if I want to put even more time into it though. It works to put a simple piece of paper under the material as you're sewing, but that makes it hard to control the stretch at the same time, and so the piece is not perfectly handled, and looks it.
Solution to this, anyone? Damn it, I need to work on my knitting machine, where nothing ever goes wrong and I can make garments in my sleep... 8.22.2006

My lingerie order of mesh and lace Rhumba Panties is going to be in the shop first week of September! I love these kinds of panties. I had a bikini with ruffles all over it, and I wore it under my clothes for a good part of ages 8 and 9. I ordered all the colors!

I bought myself an early birthday present {it's not till Sept}, a Bissell Little Green machine. Now my sneaky Little Miss Piddle is FOILED. haha, Penny! Have thrown away rugs, nice ones, since I've had her, and I'm tired of it. This thing is great! She been watching dejectedly as I easily removed her mark upon my new cream with blue dots wool rug. Damn those Chihuahuas and their sneaky peepee ways.
Going to Coney Island tommorrow with pals, hope to get some nice pictures, a bit of a tan and some seaside junk food. 8.20.2006
Store knitting is picked up and put down many times a day, so it has to be something without a very complex stitch pattern, hence baby alpaca mesh scarves for the shop this year:
CU CUI love knitting mesh! 8.18.2006
This is great! Craftster's Craft Challenge #13: Rockin' Sock Monkey competition.
Running out of yarn, so this is turning into a freaking weskit. There will be rib on the arms and around the neck, and the jersey sections will have cream colored {tone on tone} embroidered raw silk applique on them. I'll post the next pic of it when it's done. CU8.17.2006
The Sleeprunning Penny pillow has found it's new home, where it will be loved to death by Samson, a confirmed, proud Pillowsexual. {thanks Lia!} hehe.
Ordered wireless router for the shop yesterday, so I can administer the webshop from work, pop things up as they come in and take them down immediately as they sell. It was a huge pain in the ass to have things still online that sold at the shop, then have to wait till I got home to take them off the site, very stressful, if you continue to get orders for what's just sold. Almost everything is very limited amounts, and I'm not always able to re-order for various reasons. Canning the shops landline as well, and going VOIP. The whole shebang is cheaper than my phone bill by itself. The shop's phone number stays the same. Skipping the Gift Fair, I just don't want to go. I have 5 or 6 more trade shows that are infinitely more relevent to me over the next 6 weeks or so, and I'm not in the mood to be exhausted for nothing, or only a few items ordered. I'm focusing the shop more on clothing, less on accessories, except for what I already carry. Tired. Machine knitting this am. New 'do, new glasses: CUMy fabulous huntress feline, Kitty, has killed *3* huge waterbugs in the last week, and left their feebly kicking corpses in the hallway for me to admire, then dispose of. THANK YOU, YOU AWESOME CAT!!! Where the fuck are they coming from??? 8.15.2006
I woke up with a very sore throat this am, it's a bit of a shock, since I haven't been sick for about 7 or 8 years. SHIT! Planned on traipsinging the gigantic Gift Fair with Ranjit later today, that's been postponed. I'm a little freaked, because I'm just never sick, makes me wonder why I got sick this time. DAMN IT. Putting knitting machinery together today, have to go pick up teal/green new glasses later, maybe tommorrow, since I really want to stay home and rest. I'm not happy today, DO NOT LIKE BEING INCAPACITATED> even in the slightest.
Finally saw "Brokeback Mountain" last night, what a sad, sad film, beautifully acted. Great article in todays Times about a proof regarding the Poincaré conjecture, about the nature of space. Fascinating reading. reg. req. Starting handknitting an actual garment last night, a vest, textured. Wanted big, mindless, crunchy, 3D knitting, and got it. Those are US 10.5s, and the yarn is one end Knitpicks.com "Sierra", and one end industrial wool/angora lace weight. Stopped here to think of how to proceed, designing on the fly. That's a biasing on purpose eyelet rib, I hopes it continues to bias after it's washed and blocked. CU8.12.2006
I couldn't resist: I forget who suggested this, Andree? It's a present for someone, but I will be making some more elablorate ones for the shop. I just love this picture of my little sugar-dog so much...

Small pillow series using prints on cotton of my small dolls, appliqued onto ultrasuede pebble shapes:
CUWoke up late today, and have to run into town before opening up the shop later...sigh...that's the last fucking thing I want to do!! I WANT A DAMNED DAY OFF!!!! 8.09.2006
Beautiful new MOONMILK, only one day old!

Been working alot on new Fall things, when I'm in that mode I don't think about writing much. Spent all freaking day yesterday at a massive trade show, it was fun but I wore the wrong shoes. Reorganizing {haha} how I order for the shop, with a schedule and budget, shit that's a job in itself. I'm trying, and sometimes managing to smoothly let volume increase while having more free time, AND having more studio time. Experimenting with different variables in what comes in the shop and when. Enjoying it.
Took an extremely rare "me" day Monday and had a pedicure {red, of course}, hour long full body massage {thanks, Ingrid!}, and cut my hair short, finally. It was past the middle of my back, and when we had the heat wave last week, it clung to me like seaweed when I tried to get it off my neck. So I cut it. The resulting freed ponytail is going to "Locks of Love". CUMade time to get deeper into the machine embroidery software. Some recent experiments: CU {better}Square Bikinis: A scan of one of my little rubber dolls, modesty bars added in photoshop, then digitized and embroidered in shiny rayon on cotton or linen: CU8.02.2006
Got only this much done yesterday:
CUThe second in the Eye bag series. It still needs it's pocket "mouth". Brutally, mercilessly hot here, too hot to boot up or use any electronic equipment. My computer is definitely not happy, so I'm keeping it shut down until this passes. Went out on my bike on a grocery run at dusk last night, mostly for fruit and a plate of sushi, which I was craving. Hit a big bump hurrying home, the sushi flew out of my bikes basket and landed splayed all over Park Place in the middle of the street. *sigh* Apologies to people on that block whos street now smells of hot fish. Surviving on orange-flavored seltzer, iced coffee, frozen green grapes and ice cream. Taking the dogs into the shop with me today, my top floor apt. is too, too fucking hot to make them endure it for one more day. No AC, but the shop has one. Murphy can goose the women and lunge at men all this afternoon. |
