My Bio:

Hi, I'm Stacejoy Elkin, RedLipstick Boutique owner, designer and all round do-everything girl. Originally conceived in late 2000 as a place to sell my knitwear, clothing and jewelry designs, the shop is also blossoming into a place to teach knitting.

For 10 years during the late '80's and '90's, I owned a private knit development studio working with 7th Avenue's top designers. During that time, I designed innovative knitted fabric structures (both hand and machine knit) for such clients Donna Karan, Armani Exchange, Tommy Hilfiger, and Anne Klein.

Previously a dress and costume designer, in 1986 I designed the costumes for Madonna's "True Blue" video. Patricia Field's shop on 8th street has carried my dresses and sweaters. I've worked with film costume designer Claudia Brown to create the starring scarf for Matt Dillon in "The Saint of Fort Washington", and a cashmere/kid mohair sweater for Sigourney Weaver in "Copycat". My work has been featured in print magazine ads.

During the 80's I held fashion shows at the Mudd Club and Club 57 in the East Village, NY. I was also a founding member of the drum & bass all-girl group "Pulsallama", which recorded for the Dick O'Dell's Y Records based in London. We opened for the Clash 5 times. (man, that was fun!).

More recently, I took a 5 year hiatus from clothing design to focus on web development, ending up at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research & Development Lab as Art Director/Creative Producer on the HotMedia Project. HotMedia is a software tool developed to allow non-programmers to create stable, crossplatform Java applets for web sites.

For the past few years, I've animated abstract, computer generated short films in collaboration with composer Mark Hofschneider. The visuals were mostly created with Knot, Lloyd Burchill's incredible application that uses parametric equations to define shapes in space. Press about our animation work includes "WIRED", "N.Y. TIMES" and "ANIMATION WORLD NETWORK". These films are shown worldwide with the DFILM Digital Film Festival.

While still very interested in technology, I realized I missed experimenting with yarn, hence the shop! My current work is an attempt to meld these two disciplines.
