This pattern was designed about 9 years ago, the inspiration being those lovely mission blankets from around the turn of the century, using the classic colors black, red and cream. It's very effective as a horizontal band across the chest. It's 36 stitches wide, and if you use it as such, be sure to center it, probably with the large diamond in the middle. There are some long floats in this pattern, so you will need to remember to wrap the unused color with the working color when these occur.
The blank squares were knitted with a cream colored wool, and each cream stitch should be twisted, coming and going, for a special woven effect.
I've indicated where the pattern repeat is, in case you choose to use this graph as an allover pattern, which could be pretty interesting, I haven't tried that yet. |
