This pattern makes very wide, sideways fans on an openwork background, with triangles on the bottom edge, and a gartered border at the top. The original calls for size 1 needles. Cast on 17 stitches.
1st row: k17 st.
2nd row: k1,( yarn over needle twice - double O made; being careful not to lose the double O , p2 tog.) 5 times; double O, k6 - Now you have 24 sts., counting every double O as 2 st.
3rd row: Slip 1, k6, (p1, k2 ) 5 times; p1, O, k1- 25 sts., counting O as first st.
4th row: Slip 1, k 24 sts.
5th row: Slip 1, k22, O, k2 - 26 sts., counting as before.
6th row: k3, double O; p2tog, k13, p2tog, double O; k6 - 28 sts., counting as before.
7th row: Slip1, k6, p1, k16, p1, O, k3 - 29 sts.
8th row: Slip1, k28 sts.
9th row: Slip1, k24, O, k4 - 30 sts.
10th row: k5, (double O, p2tog) twice; k11 (p2tog, double O) twice; k6 - 34 sts.
11th row: Slip 1, k6, p1, k2, p1, k14, p1, k2, p1, O, k5 - 35 sts.
12th row: Slip 1, k 34 sts.
13th row: Slip 1, k10, (double O, k1) 14 times; k4, O, k6 - 64 st.
14th row: Bind off 6 sts., (p1, O) 4 times; (slip 1 st. as if to purl; drop double O off needle) 14 times; slip 1 st; slip first 15 sts. (at point) on right-hand
needle back onto left-hand needle; being careful not to "lose" previous
double O, purl these 15 sts. together; (O, p1) 4 times; k6 - 24 sts.
Repeat 3rd to 14th rows for pattern. Bind off.
